Terilogy Conference and reception in Singapore

Terilogy Conference in Singapore
In the early 2000s, high-frequency trading still accounted for less than 10% of equity orders, but this proportion was soon to begin rapid growth. According to data from the NYSE, trading volume grew by about 164% between 2005 and 2009 for which high-frequency trading might be accounted. As of the first quarter in 2009, total assets under management for hedge funds with high-frequency trading strategies were $141 billion, down about 21% from their peak before the worst of the crises. In the United States, high-frequency trading firms represent 2% of the approximately 20,000 firms operating today, but account for 73% of all equity orders volume.
Concept of this conference
Today, we are pleased to announce that we have invited Mr. Henry Young, CEO of TS Associates (TSA) who is a seasoned industry expert on latency monitoring solution. Mr. Young is well known for his well balanced engineering skill set and real life business experiences in trading environment. In this session he will share the best practice of current latency monitoring and reporting technology. Another guest speaker is Mr. Randall Duran, CEO of Catena technology who is providing consulting services on system performance tuning and optimization based on proven methodology. He will discuss steps that we should take to achieve highest performance in trading platform.
Latency Monitoring
In today’s high frequency trading environment, the main stream of architecture is shifting from the distributed architecture to the centralized architecture which is capable of running multiple processes in high-performance multi-core servers. In such an environment, not only accurate measurement of latency at the network level, but also visualization of inter-process latency in servers is important. However, the traditional log-based inter-process latency monitoring is not accurate enough because of its high dependence on a server clock. Also, this method deteriorates performance of a server using its resources such as CPU and memory. In a cutting-edge HFT environment, a latency monitoring solution which visualizes latency in both network and application layer without making additional loads and delays is highly demanded.

Optimization
One common issue arises after the introduction of latency monitoring devices is how to optimize current performance that has been visualized through the measurement. To implement effective optimization, the cross-sharing of information between network, application and other relevant departments is essential. To realize this, rather than each department using different monitoring devices, it is important that monitoring be implemented using common products. Also, abundant experience and expertise are required for finding out bottlenecks, making the best investment and implementing the most effective tuning.

The three companies Terilogy, TS Associates and Catena Technologies provide solutions that resolve these issues

Subscription Service
Terilogy has formed a partnership with a network operating service provider and launched a latency monitoring subscription service. This service provides latency monitoring capability to financial companies using the proximity service provided by our partner. By paying a monthly subscription, users will be able to carry out highly accurate latency measurement on their own systems in partner’s data center reducing initial costs. Although currently available only in Japan, this service is scheduled to be expanded to Singapore. It is planned to provide the same capability to Co-location users.

Terilogy Center Of Excellence
In addition, we really appreciate to introduce you our lab facility located here in Singapore. The Centre of Excellence (CoE) is the cutting-edge solution experience space served by Terilogy. During the session, we will present you some of the various solutions available at CoE.

- Monitoring and visualization for nano second level latency on your network
- Nowadays, many systems are intertwined over network to perform transaction. Obviously, the performance of the system is one of the most important challenges for any organization. And the truth is you cannot improve what you can’t see. You cannot see what you can’t measure. We will cover you how you can realize nano-sec measurement and visualization.
- Logging for acceleration of your application
- he bottlenecks may also exist in your applications. Which module has the issue? Which logic is the root cause of the latency? The tuning of actual applications is the most critical question for financial organizations. The accurate measurement of the processing time of each logic is the essential to realize the superior tuning.
- Time Synchronization
- Precise time synchronization is an essential for the realization of accurate measurement of latency and processing times. Especially where nano-second delay matters. However, time synchronization is a complex endeavor and takes a lot of expertise to orchestrate multiple components. We will demystify the secrets of techniques with currently available technologies.
- Dashboard Solutions
- It is very difficult to predict where you may have the bottlenecks in your system. Even if your applications are tuned and accelerated, you cannot get maximum performance of the entire system without stable performance of each component in your network. This is why you need to visualize all of the components and system performance. The integration of network monitoring functions with the latency monitoring and visualization solutions, such as TipOff, makes it possible to realize a holistic view on environment. Such collection of information should be presented in dashboard.
- Packet Capture and Analysis
- Even on current large-capacity networks, you may have to capture and analyze the packets for many purposes. You sometime need to store entire packets with no loss and those for understanding your customers' behavior, sometime for preventing the attacks from externals, sometime for rapid trouble shootings and so on. We can provide you our own to capture all of packets from your 10G networks.
Our CoE aims to provide such various solutions and we are planning to expand its features continuously.
Regarding Service for Subscription to Network Operators
Terilogy has formed a partnership with a network operator and will be launching a delay-measurement subscription service for the provision of delay-measurement service using TSA products to users of the Proximity Service offered by the network operator. By paying a monthly subscription, users will be able to carry out highly accurate delay measurement on their own systems in the data center of the network operator while keeping down initial costs. Although currently available only in Japan, this service is scheduled to be expanded to Singapore. Plans are in place to offer the same service in Singapore to Co-location users.
